"Thursday Feb 12th 1914 Following 20 miles out turn and 22 below zero but we got away at 11-15 after loading everyone good bye. Rammers came down on the ice to see us off. Jol and George took pictures of us both. To our astonishment when we came to Sunrise Point there was such a high tide that it had so over flowed the ice that that it was impossible to proceed. Therefore we returned home planning to start tomorrow early on the low water. My tie did good at - 3 below. Doc us care pulled 30 mill clear without him.
