During the winter I placed a pole 6 feet long in the hole where I had cut through & measure the Ice this froze in aid later was sawed off level with the surface to day June 3 (1917) I find that the surface of the Ice has melted or evaporated 1/2 inch so far to day June 10 the surface of the Ice has evaporated 2 inches (so) far but nothing underneath or the ice measures 70 inches thick in new cut hole Tides at Etab Harm North Greenland May 1 1917 available space 15 feet Ice 7 1/2 inches thick - An inverted trough Partitioned off by a piece of Tin the small iron weights are carried backward or forward and lifted as the tide comes or recedes The plank is marked off in & feet and Tenths [illegible] Plan of arrangement in measuring the tides tide and fall of tides [illegible] / all over Eight foot pattern sheet Can be filled with stone
