JPLMyas 1975 Journal Transects, Grid 3 7 July (Cont'd) Thus: [sketches of grids] Sampled as all other transects. RESULTS: TRANSECT 5 alpina 4 bairdi 0 [illegible] fuscolli 6 melanotos ♀ 7 [illegible] pygidae mauri 0 [illegible] posilla 4 ♀ Ph. fulicarius ♀ 5 2 [illegible] Arenaria 1: 1 [illegible] After finishing the transect I occurred Grid 3, using double the transect run as part of the grid census routine. Here in grid 3 the pond edges are receding also; silty bottoms are all that remain of a few of the smaller ponds. But the worst phenological development was the appearance of mosquitoes. This morning there had been a strong S wind, which was really gut to warm. Then it died, and as it did so the mosquitoes started to rise. (Every so often solvation appeared imminent.) The soft S wind would give way to icy fenges off the ocean - the only time I've ever felt an actual thermocline like effect in the atmosphere. But when I went in around 1300 that a calm prevailed. Temp. at the lab upon return was 65°F. this may prove to be the hottest day of the year - I hope so. route G-RIO 3 alpina ♀ 25 melanotos ♀ 13 posilla 5 Ph. fulicarius ♀ 15 66 Arenaria 4 Pluvialis d. 2 Limnodromus 9 [illegible]
