Steatornis pomarivus Grid 2, N. of Smithsonian Building, Pt Barrow Alaska 12 June cont'd ♀ beginning to arch back way up, w/ tail up, turning around walking away from him settling down. ♂ walks away, some parallel walking then. ♂ tail has been up continuously, his is not up. He is calling a soft ca ca ca ca 3-4/sec for 15 seconds repeating. facing on another while ♂ calls. the he placed wings up, increasing intensity of calling. Picking wings way up, looking somewhat like a sandpiper wing display. Primaries displayed way out, held up for several seconds. Both wings up. Her posture becoming more exaggerated with ♀ arch. she is jumping up + down using wings (did 50 twice). ♂ mounted her calling, walking on top. Within 15 sec copulated again after 17 seconds. She also called zonic copulated briefly again after 40 seconds. Flushing wings for balance even dopt. of touching ground. Has doubled neck so as to be sitting ♂ on top of head - another copulation at 1 min 27 seconds. He remained on her back for 1 min 50 sec at which pt ♀ shook, ♂ slid off [he had folded wings just before ♀ shook him off]. Once ♂ off ♀ ruffled feathers. ♂+♀ then faced one another, chests thrust out. Then ♀ flew off + ♂ followed within 10 seconds.
