Pluvialis dominica
15 June
Transact 1 [51,233 pieces] , Garline Ridge, Pt. Barrow, Alaska
first displaying golden player of year - a flight very similar to Ch. semipalmus.
far beyond to S of transect. call deeper + slower than semi. - chown chown....
landed w/ wings up for ~10 sec. landed on mound.
20 July
Pow Main
flock of 150 Pluvialis tooling around the ridge S of Pow Main
Grid 2
24 July
a small flock (7) of Pluvialis in the lower corner of Grid 2 today foraging along
the polygon tops.
TRANSECT I
27 July
new influx of Pluvialis on the transect - w/ calpina foraging in the polygons.
Grid 2
30 July
Pluvialis still on the grid, now definitely associating with calpina, foraging along polygon
top and to a certain extent in the troughs. Considerable # (9 - which I guess isn't considerable)
picked up flying overhead.
TRANSECT 1, 3, 5
5 August
Pluvialis now difficult to find except in a few areas where adults are w/ chicks.
Grid 2
13 August
several juvenile Pluvialis on the grid today; heard winter territory call for first
time (the too-dely-too-dely falling note) + saw aggression entre the juveniles, although
it obviously was not truly space specific.
