M a r 1959 Journal June 4 Barrow, Alaska S p e n t m o r n i n g p u t t i n g v o l t a g e c i r c u i t for photocell apparatus. Frank Pitelka arrived w. Dick Valine. After lunch went out to the pressure ridge with Tim Myers & Mike Daniels. In one hour a tremendous flight of Pacific Eiders occurred. Some pomerin gaugers were seen. Old Squaw, King Eider, one Cootail, 1 Short-eared Owl, Murre, Yellow-bellied Merganser. Leons were also seen. Returned at 4 PM. Went on flight v. Unmak with Bobby Fisler. Log of trip: Depart Barrow 4:48 P.M. Oarlock Island 5:05 ½ Moon 3 land (bright) 5:17 Arrived Unmat 6:25 Depart Unmat 7:10 Followed down Colville to Oldlikah - west to Barrow. Arrived Barrow 9:25 P.M. Comments: Coastal plain still 97-98% snow covered. Little melting so we progressed inland. Steam & rivers closed. Slephuph River had some water on the bends not much. The melting didn't show
