Hirundo erythrogaster, Barn Swallow June 17 - Retinquea River. Two Barn Swallows were seen at 5. end of Owl ridge. Flew around a couple of times + then headed on west. June 18 In morning a barn swallow was seen flipping about tent area & over mine. It caught a butterfly or moth + played with it a while, camping at then releasing it + re-catching it. I saw this repeated several times. June 19 In evening 2 swallows were flying about tent & along bar. Cued that feed in the cliffs down stream. June 20 One swallow seen around tent & along river on far side several times during day. June 21 Swallow flew past tent in early afternoon. June 25 One Swallow flushed from cabin at never moved in late evening. July 4 flushed one swallow from cabin in evening. A partially built nest was found on side of one roof beam. Small mud ledge 1½" wide by 2 long. Mud pellets were dabbed all along the same beam & several adjacent beams. July 16 Seen flying about camp area during calm warm weather late this afternoon. Aug 7 Nest measured 4½ x 2½, seemed finished. Last sighting of swallow was July 16 noted above.
