May 16 Barrow, Alaska Tom Cadet & I made a wearl trip to the Snare River via the coal mine cast trail. Left at 9:30 A.M. - reached river at noon. Distance traveled 30.8 miles from the village. Trail was in good shape. Snow shows little sign of melting - even ridge & polygons have a thin cover thin which grass & flower stems protrude. We saw almost nothing.
