Mabry 1959 Capella gellinago Snipe May 27. Patneger Lane. Heard three winnowing 2 or 3 Time during the day. This time I was convinced of their presence. Heard one winnow about 4 dayspago (or 23) but only briefly + did not record it. June 14. Heard snipe winnow in evening alone Willow Creek. Definitely snipe the time - not sure of above entry. June 22. 10:30 P.M. Heard snipe winnow once over camp, couldn't spot bird. June 25. F-bushed a snipe from turochotender at edge of Carex marsh along river - flur giving an alarm call then flew high + winnowed. Later saw one winnowing 1/4 mile upstream. Noted something I hadn't before - that the winnow- is produced during a shallow dive & end as he pulls out. Dive X no more than 25-30" to horizontal.
