Linnnaeus scolopaceus May 21 Pithurga River. Seen usually in pairs. Can think of no exception to this. Much chasing & calling - both on tundra + along rivers. May 23 Several pairs seen - 2 remember, distinctly, feeding (as pairs) in grassy tundra across river. May 25: Saw one pair today. They seem down in number May 26 There seem concentrated about wet marshy areas around small lake. I saw 8 in one such area, associated together, shut in pairs. One seen late, in similar habitat May 27 3 pairs noted. They are probably commoner than this. They hang about wet cover marsh areas + as liable to be overlooked unless flushed. One was seen at edge of small pond with a 2 Pintail & 1 Dunlin June 15 None seen since return. June 16 Two seen along upper Babel Stream in carex marsh near Longtail Vest. June 17 One heard in carex marsh across river in even- ing. June 18 Saw dourlette in wet polygon tundra when going to Pomerain meet #1
