Fale, 1959 Journal borrowed on campus. I photographed some pasque flowers blooming on the slope. No nest found - just an empty scrape. Had a chat with Otto Gaiser in late afternoon. He is going to the north slope this year to work on the Killik & Shishipuk rivers. May 11 Barrow Alaska Up at 5:11, at airport at 5:45-6:00. Wein departed at 7:45 + or once they are on time. Stopped at Unmit where we found George the only familiar face. Few oil people about they expect a hundred or so this year. North slope still snow covered - no sign of melting except few ridge tops & few sand bars. No water on Colwill & none on other rivers. Clear sunny day. Armed Barrow about 70 %. In field after lunch made large circuit of Central marsh - down E side along south edge around Gas well & back - no owls - no lemming sign. Did see a couple
