May 1959 Journal frequent stops & before digging etc. Birds seen: 2 swallows probably Violet Green heard several Red palls Stopped at the bridge over the [illegible] Chatahaha River. Forest was also very quiet here but we did find a pair of [illegible]. After supper we went to a small lake near campus. Saw: Horned Grebes (Smith Lake) Buffle-heads Golden Eye (Barrows?) Baldpate Shovellers Ducks - Canada Canvas-back Dreemwing Teal Scamps (? or ?) Lesser Yellowlegs Bonaparte Gulls New Gull At Bluffs along Banana line, found a pair of Peregrines. Mallards or Long In the morning before breakfast or walk around campus heard Robin, white- crowned Sparrow. May 19 Fairbanks In morning tried to locate nest of Peregrines seen previous evening. Tom climbed down cliff with a climbing rope
