Mable 1959 Charadrius luctuosa (Semi pal. plane) May23 Litanegen Bine - One seen on bar one mile upstream from camp. May26 Pair on bar below camp in morning. Pair on gravel bar in delta in afternoon. same pair? June 17 Litanegen: Encountered a pair on bar below tent this morning. Thought they might be nesting as judged by their activities. Returned in evening & cross-covered the area. They weren't present. June 18 In evening - about midnight - saw a plane circling over a bar 1 mile up from camp, across from mouth of Willow Creek - flew over an area 200 feet x 100 feet - wing beat slow calling continuously rē rē rē rē rē rē - run together sometimes with a little syllable inserted between, so that it became rē'i rē'i rē' the "i" was asthmatic. While doing this I saw it give chase to a 'pep prandypiper.'
