Butes Lagopine May 21 Lutmegea Pines - One individual, a may light one, was seen in encounter w. Bysfalcon - (see apparatment). Late in afternoon it was seen circling one area on west side of mine. May 23 Four of these seen hanging one, just rocky ridge upstream on E. side. All 4 q plumage according to Code. One showed moulting of minor primaries. There was some aggressive behavior between 2 in the air. Possibly courting. May 25 Half dozen males seen along stream mile 5. of camp. They are not yet terrestrial, I saw one display, also saw 20-3 rites, and one Rock Ptarmigan associated together. Breeding seems not yet to be incipient. May 26 Saw one flying downstream in late afternoon. Crossed river from E to W. May 28 Pair located near high steep slope along stream 1/4 miles up from camp. No nest sign yet. But both adults called + screamed + circled over one particular part of the cliff. May 26 Pete Sowall saw a Burroughs lay along cliffs south of the Village June 13 Lutmegea - One screaming near where pair located above
