May 22 Ptarmigan Line.
Two seen flying upstream past tent
on evening of May 20
Two seen on snow bank by river
on afternoon of May 21
Twenty+ snow geese this noon -
flaw by headed W. across tundra.
May 23 Flock of 20 this morning flew up
river. A flock of 10 feeding along edge
of grassy vegetation in one bend
of river - mile upstream from camp.
Another group of 10 on tundra on
E side of river. Flew across river
at our approach. Noted some with
rusty brown heads + necks in this
latter flock
May 26 A flock of 21 were on the gravel bar at the
mouth of the river. They finally flew when
I got too close. Headed W. Tom saw a
flock of 25 or so upstream near Cypfalton
nest. He scared them downstream. There
was a flock feeding on the tundra 1/2 mile
inland from boat which may have been
the 2nd.
May 27 Flock of 30-35 have been settled on tundra
across river all day.
