July 28 (left) all nests. Didn't meet Yellow Creek
since Parent #1 has already flown. Did
walk up the W. fork of Barhal Slough & found
a pair, muddly demonstration, of Longtails.
This approximately the area of pair 9
missing since I returned to the area from
Kashan trip. Am very skeptical that the
to same pair. Lt #5, & Parent #2 have
flown. Most of the owls are gone. There
is one chick in each enclosure & they
should be gone shortly. The only
laggard is my pomeine chick.
July 29 Sitmequa River, Alaska.
No plane. Bad day, high overcast. To
broken. Cleared partly in afternoon. Moderate
wind from NNE. Walked to beach & along
it for about 3 miles. Checked on nests
on far ridge & back to pair seven.
Returned to beach at end of Longridge
& followed it to river. Carves have dropped
considerably. There is a large amount
of flotsam on the beach. One dead
singed seal, part of another, a dead
adult fox, & about a dozen Murre. The
latter were mostly eaten but I found
one entire carcass & brought it back
with me. Also brought back the
head of the fox. There is little by
