H. Banks, Alaska September 3 Genecis etc. Plots were photographed this date. Growing 1 Callyphindus Scoparum is proving very productive in lab. September 4 Went out to ridge 2 mile SE to check snap traps + pick up live trapped lemmings - ground with a just like snow imparting a wintry aspect to all. Saw 3 Longspurs during the trip out + back (8 am - 10 am). Spent most of the day working on tissue stuff for Ranch. Started snow flurrying earnestly around 5:30 pm + continued off + on, leaving the ground with thin but open film of snow. Ground frozen tonight. September 5 Went out to ridge + checked the traps for lemmings. Ponds frozen over with as much as 1" of ice or some other less average I should guess is around 1/2" snow fell off and on, Warded 2 Lemmings, tissues for Ranch. Saw 3 Longspurs on trip out to ridge September 6 Banding on grid - spent day in lab for most part - ponds frozen over still and blanket of snow covered the tundra this A.M. Surface counts of insects discontinued this date since no activity found anywhere. Apparently low temperatures + freezing 1 ponds caused this only
