Sampling Notes
June 21. Dragged tundra pools behind ARL building -
10 ft drag with plankton net - yielded
predominantly copepods & at most 5 chironomid
(red) larvae. This method used also on
ridge plot area with same results except
chironomids turned out to be a small
grayish rasal with approximately 20
turning up in 10 ft drag.
In a 12 x 12 x 1" amud sample from edge of
tundra pool behind ARL got 236 red
chironomid larvae - they are preserved
no other animal life noted by this sampling
method
June 23. Exploratory sample of tundra pools
on ridge showed same levels of chironomid
larvae. Plankton net dragging in pool behind
ARL yielded 2 lepidoptera (Lepidoptera) larvae
a bottom sample near edge of pool showed
1 red chironomid larva; 10 earthworms
2 beetle like larvae. This sample
consisted mostly of moss-like materials
and a few grass stems - size 1 sample
12 x 12 x 1" & from under 2" of water.
June 26. Examined funnel Traps that had been
set behind ARL in the tundra pools in
chiefly Carex vegetation. Traps had
been set on 24th near edge of pool in
