Hurd 1952 July 17 Meter plots on grid this morning from 10-12. In spite of southwesterly wind mosquitoes were pestiferous. Counts in general reflected an increase over last trips in spite of our east condition. In afternoon continued sampling but in willow area along old bead line. [illegible] many willows were noted in bloom and on beech line the Bulterspys (R. rivalis) in full bloom. Insects life here ran very high quantitatively especially one sp of Cecid? which was ±100 per sq. meters in average. Other elements: Fingernuts ±25 per sq. met.; Muscin ±20 per sq. meter; Ephydrids ±15 per sq. met.; Schneumms ±5 per sq. met.; Tepirids ±3 per sq. meter; Tenthredinids ±1 per sq. meter. Eggs ran about 10 per sq. meter - all counts 15 minute duration. Mosquitoes became increasingly abundant as we left area at 3. Midges were frequently encountered here in willow met. plots, most of will bloom ont only from adjacent marsh and average ±15 per sq. meter. Another green midge encountered today. Bumby queens observed flying about Atlantic area about 10 am - more observed in afternoon. In evening we visited marsh area and found midges abundantly in
