Pt. Barrow, Alaska
July 29
afternoon a ridge light E wind
Clear! In general counts reflect
a continuing decline except at or
near ponds at the fresh water lake when
the chironomids of the present emergent
period (July 26th to date) are very
abundant. Most noticeable flights
are about the fresh water lake but the
ponds of central marsh are equally
as large in the case of the larger
ponds. Most areas between polygons
of higher country also have a number
of midges emerging. The Petalites
on lower sites are in full bloom +
concentrating the muscoid + the now
increasing Syrphid flights. The willows
portion of the ridge is dried up coincidentally
and the Papavers are almost gone.
The fungivoid population is virtually
non-existent as is also the Scioids.
The ichneumonids seem to be decreasing
on ridge area. Snopflies haven't been
seen for some time now. The Genusis
on portions of the ridge continues to bloom
since last time but these numbers are
sparse. In general the tundra looks
must, now yellow-brown + acquiring only fall colors
