Pt. Barrow, Alaska July 8 One of the large deep blue-blue muscid flies was observed in the frost scar area. Activity along the willow perim of the ridge—the principal activity was ± 4 fungivoids per sq meter /15 minutes. The spider count in all types of tundra is below 1 per sq. meter /15 minutes. July 11 Overcast with a tendency to clear; a few brief periods when sun did break through. The insect counts low. The fungivoids are still the predominant insect in counts. A few crane flies were encountered in ditches between the polygons. Chironomids, almost all very small species, are present in relatively low numbers. July 14 Weather overcast with light north winds—cold. Fungivoid activity decidedly up over last time, as also muscoid flies see counts. The crane flies of 2 spp are present but still much below the 1 per sq meter, level. The anthomyid flies are rarely encountered in type of the ridge, but along the willow patin
