Weather during count over cast with strong southerly wind sun came out a few times & then briefly Meter Plot No. 2 (Intermediate) Date July 8, 1952 Pt. Barrow, Alaska 1400 Funnel traps: 1) 1 dytiscid, 3 spiders 2) 1 spider 3) 2 dytiscids; 3 spiders Can count: 9 spiders; 8 Fungivoids; 4 Slophylenids, ±75 collembola. Surface fauna: 13 Ephydrids. 11 Fungivoids. 16 spiders and 3 Cedicomyiids. Replicates gave a somewhat higher count on Ephydrids ±18, essentially same figure for spiders + Fungivoids; 2 anthomyid's per sq. meter showed up in 3 of the 5 replicates, also 1 out of the five showed 1 Tipulid adult. Some Collembola ±50 visible within desturbing plant cover 43 + C Berlese sample: 15 mm of collembola, with 1 small dipteran larvae in 8 x 90 mm vial; 12 earthworms - 12 hrs run - Berlese - Sample saved. 15 + 12 Vegetation notes: ground very mud dry and grass stems immediate surface area - this area not dug up or insect, plot at 3 replicates reveals slightly higher spider + collembola count. Remarks: Longspur actively feed on this polygon
