Sampling Notes
June 26 4" or less of water - results: 1) 1 Dytsicid Ad;
30 earthworms; ±15 Chironomid larvae; 1
spider. 2) 1 Dytsicid Ad; 20 Chironomid
larvae (with small whitewash, former
predominating); 10 earthworms. 3) 18 earthworms
5 Chironomid larvae. A 1/4 meter plot
of grass topped polygon behind A.R.L yielded
at surface area 3 Ad Carabid + 2 Carabid
larvae.
June 28 In tundra pools on grid plot behind A.R.L.
the large red Chironomid larvae are in evidence
especially near margins of pools under about
1" to 1½" of water. Collembola are present
in large numbers in certain of the pools - many
diptera larvae - especially Chironomids,
and probably Sphrydids are along margins
of pools and in damp situations. A couple
of adult Chironomids were noted on
compost 1 one of the pools.
June 30 On pebbly bottomed + banded pools the
Eretmoptera - like (strapwinged chironomid)
are out in large numbers - many of
the visible ones are males, but by turning
the pebbles over in moist areas females can
be found & seem to be 2-3 times as numerous as
the males - by contrast with the numbers
of males they (F) are rarer. a few
