Plant description . Liliaceae (Lilioid).
Herbaceous perennial with a short rhizome. Leaves basal, linear-lanceolate, entire, sheathing at base, 30-45 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. Inflorescence terminal, racemose, many-flowered. Flowers small, white or pale pink, with 6 tepals, 6 stamens, and a superior ovary. Capsule loculicidal, containing numerous seeds.
Locality data . Collected near St. Louis, Mo., on the banks of the Missouri River, in a moist meadow, at an elevation of about 200 feet above sea level. The habitat is typical for this species, which occurs in similar environments throughout its range.
