R.B. Hamilton 1965 Journal Barrow Alaska 31 July for Alcids, I saw an bird flying with marks that was a harial putton. I saw several Black Guillemot and several birds that I believe were little murrelets. Thick-billed murre and Black-legged Kittiwake were easy to see. In the evening I ran to trpplines - lines XIII and XIV first. On the way back just after crossing Viblsubly slough the wind stopped. I found later that it was out of goo, I waited about an hour trying to get it going. I then ran the other trpplines on foot and walked into camp. There was a slight drizzle at the time. 1 Aug. The day was overcast with some light drizzle. The temperature was from 30°-40° with wind from NW. In the morning I got a 5 gallon can at gasoline from John Beck and went to see if the sick wood would start; it did. It no longer then was lines I, II, III and VIII and brought in the sick wooded books. In the afternoon Steve and I brought in lines XIII and XIV. Steve then drove the other wooded books. In the evening I brought in lines II, IV, VII and VIII. There was a slight drizzle and the trpys were coated with ice but my hands managed to stay warm if I kept busy - which I did. In the afternoon Steve and I saw 2 female spectacled Eider fly over. 2 Aug. This day was a complete waste. Steve told me in the morning to get ready to go to Cape Thompson. I was ready at 0930 like his said. Our daily followed another and we never did get away.
