R.B.Hamilton 1966 Lemmus trimucronatus June 22. Lemmings are very abundant in the newly exposed areas E at ARL. In the morning I caught about 20 lemmings in an area estimated to be about .1 Acre. There were many areas observed during the day in which lemmings were more obvious and seemed to be at higher densities. Chasing was observed often. On two occasions the lemmings were observed standing face to face and pawing each other's face. They then copulated. June 23. Dave Mullin caught about 20 lemmings on the Beach Ridge in the morning in an area of about 1/10th of an acre. It took us about 2 hours. Lemming activity was obvious around the tundra. A dead Lemming was found at a mound used by Snowy Owls. The lemmings are still seen around the edges of snow but most frequently but they are often encountered in exposed tundra. Jun. 24 A number of lemmings were found dead on the tundra (about 15). They are still very obvious and are present in large numbers. They are frequently observed chasing each other. Jun 24-Aug 23 - The number of lemmings gradually decreases. The but they are seen in numbers in the high polygonized ground, with thanks at each move from place to place and clean up the lemmings. Only on Lemmings were seen after I got back from Lip Thompson. It was a juvenile seen on the morning of Aug 23, at 11:30. JUA
