R.B. Hamilton 1965 Nyctes scandiaca Jun. 24 Ten owls were observed scattered about the Tundra. A dead female was observed on the S side at Voth Crick. No sign of what could have killed her was found. Jun. 25 Five owls were observed resting on mounds. Jun. 26 Eight owls were observed resting on mounds. Jun. 27-Aug. 3 Owls seen regularly during this period. Beside the owls associated with quite their own small packets of owls that were regularly seen. This would fly in on a perch for a week or so and then move on. I think they would break up and kill off all the Lemmings in their area. On July 6 we studied one out which had a pile of about 50 Lemmings nearby. The owls that were present in powder were consistently found on high ground. Aug. 15-27 - The small flocks of owls seen are remnants of breeding population the flocks are gone, most of theirs been an immature but are flying well.
