Phalaropus fulicarius
Jun. 24 preliminary were obvious. The mal just jumped on th.
female.
Jun. 25 About twenty pair at birds were observed scattered
about the wetter places on the tundra.
Jun. 26 About thirty pair were observed. These were mainly
forl in the wet and immediately at the FAA station
in the Britton Area. The birds seem to have found
a pool of mating behavior and many copulations were
observed. In the one seen but the mal crooked with the
breast low and th tail cocked in front of the female.
Sh then crooked. The mal then put its bill near the
bill of the female and he seemed to give her a food
itch which sh. accepted with the bill. The mal then
mounted and contact seemed to be made for about
eight seconds. The birds then separated and resumed feeding.
Jun 27-Aug 3 During the first of this period the family
were moving out of the area. About the
[illegible] at only 60's were left. The
first years were heard on 24th. They came
when papa called from all directions. They met
how, they got out of sight for only several
hrs. After this the males were flocking
up in small pods.
Aug 15-27 Only occasional birds mostly young been seen.
