The day was partly cloudy and moderately warm. In the morning Dr. Pitulko and I pulled in lines IVA 2-3
IVB. We again saw the Brant-like Gulls in the Utku
Arctic, we saw our first large flock of Quails. There
were about 18 - only adult and going mostly to the latter). Dr. Pitulko thought he saw an immature Brant, Sandpipers
but he was unable to collect it. In the afternoon Dr.
Pitulko and I sat at lines XIII and XIV and
then lines V and VII. The wind in the S side
at Volobsky slough contained good numbers of Dunlin
and Pectoral Sandpipers. After supper Steve and I
went to set out lines VII and VIII. The ground
was too wet however and we were unable to put
the traps out. In the afternoon we saw two groups
of two immature jaegers. All four could fly.
A large Falcon which Dr. Pitulko said was a Gyrfalcon
being chased by a small Peregrine Jaeger. It was about
the same size as the jaegers.

In the morning I ran the trap lines and also in
the evening after the movie. Two flocks of Eider
