694 Coyste Peak, at 3000 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. June 7, 1933 Brought in all traps this morning and prepared the cleanable specimens. Last evening a find with three men, appearance of Indians, drove up on horseback, and took the left hand peak road. At dusk three rifle shots were heard; evidently shots which were directed at deer. The party evidently returned. Late in the night I crawled silently by camp. They had refused to stop on the way up at our trail. Finished packing at 18:30 — just in time to eat lunch — tho we didn’t eat. It was 4 miles ± to the highway and about 1577 miles from there to the Sayal Ranger Station. Here we paid Mr. H. Stalling & Mr. Trakes, Ranga and Mrs. Ranga. The Trinity River at this point is from fork up the North Fork is as broad as the Colorado from Hydraulicking. Saw Spann’s Hawks on telephone line over river. Back to Willows Creek for mail & cats. Road from Willows Creek to Hoopa is good most of the day — 12 miles.
