771 Phenacomys longicaudus (1) Gilmore Mad R. ford, 2400 ft., above Ruth, Trinity Co., Calif. 1933 May 23, 1933 Examined was what was apparently an old nest. It was of dried Douglas fir needle construction in small Song fir near creek. About 20' from ground and 6' from trunk. No other nests seen. Horse Mt., 4700-5200 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. June 7, 1933 No evidence of Phenacomys nests here. Coyote Peak, at 3000 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. June 44, 1933 Behle found the crushed carcass of one in the main road. Subsequent search for fresh nests failed to reveal any (but several dozen?) old nests were located by Grumme & Behle. The large old Song-Fir trees seem to have some nests in them, where nests are to be expected, fail to have many.
