369 Gilmore 1931 Pelagic Cormorant (3) with aid of mud + sticks aduct + prop it up on a rock near the water to serve as a decoy. Every one shot there after is like wise set up as a decoy. The natives shoot from blinds set back from the waters edge on some low promontory. There are dozens along the Shore for a mile or so each way. These blinds belong to a family & the occupants take their turns shooting, one shot apiece in sequence, hit or miss. The Blinds are made of logs + rocks, are about 3' high + shaped like the three sides of a box, each side 6-8' long, + end 4-5' long. Igara, Pt. Hope, Alaska, Arctic Ocean Aug 9. Doubtful sight record - a single bird flying 60-75 yds high over the land spit about 2 miles from the point. Saw no Cormorants in the way south from Kotzebue Sound etc. Sept. 1. St. MATTHEW IS Saw Several "white flanked" Cormorants flying offshore.
