FORK TAILED PETREL (2)
1931
Oct. 7 Akutan Pass, W. Aleutian Is.
While crossing the rough waters of the
three pass I saw about a half dozen
flocks of from 2-10 birds. Some
were resting on the surface and others
were flying close to the surface of the
water with rapid wing beats. They lack
the glide of the whale birds.
No one takes much notice of these
birds here.
Nov. 2. Shilikof Straits, Gulf of Alaska.
About a dozen birds were seen
today while cruising up the south
west end of the straits. They were
generally alone and flying rapidly
close over the surface of the moderately
rough waters.
