The trend of the whole group of birds was in a N.W. direction and the wind was a mild "Sou'wester". Considered in the light of Migrational possibilities, can it be that many of the birds swing across the big Bend in the Aleutian Chain to The Asiatic shore and hence south to the breeding grounds in New Zealand waters? Certainly the quantity of individuals is much less than 6 weeks ago, many having undoubtedly "moved out". Oct. 31. Akutan and Unimak Passes. Several hundred scattered birds seen in the passes as well as in between the north end of Akutan Straits. There was no directional trend to their flight. From the notes of Commander E.S.
