352 Sooty Shearwater (2) Silence as we approached Whale Passage & Kupreanof Strait. A night came on May 22 Aleutian Strait. Shearwaters began to follow the boat about noon Today by 3:00 they were about 18 flying mostly behind the boat which gales hovered over the windward side. There is a moderate gale blowing full on the starboard beam & these shearwater always face the wind in flying & so have to swoop up & back & to the left To catch up with the boat when they fall behind. boat wind --path of shear water following ship in a heavy wind full on starboard beam.
