574 Gilmore Ursus D 1931 June 11 Unalakleet, Norton St. Alaska Said to be common in hills back of coast where they bother the reindeer considerably. A half dozen or so are killed every season. Our native, Edward, guile intelligent, said that he knew the bears herded the reindeer, one bear on each flank + one at the rear. Again; that they kill the calves for plasme but prefer to eat the older ones. Igata, Point Hope, Alaska Arctic Ocean August 22 Learned from Bob Tuckfield, reliable as a rule, that there are quite a few brown bears in the hills between Lishume and Thompson + that one is killed every year or so by the reindeer herders.
