well for every specimen, and I planted
traps thru out the old village site
and in the meat cellars, but not
a single shrew was taken. Undoubt-
ably this is a year of scarcity.

Jumping back in time several months
I recall Mrs. Evans, Gout, Nurse, saying
that this past last winter and spring
shrews were very common around St.
Michael. They entered the homes in such
numbers that every morning for a
week or so, their dead bodies would
be found in all water containers.
Sept 14. Unalaska, Alaska
I have been trapping extensively since
my arrival for these animals but have
had negative results. I have tried
all types of suitable association
from sea level up to 1000 or more feet.
In addition, 700+ every one in town
that I have questioned, and they in-
clude storekeepers, fishermen, trappers
and plain civilians, have never seen
