WHEATKAR
Aug.17 Tigara, Ft.Hope, Alaska
Spec. 1903 in the first I have seen.
It was accompanied by another which
disappeared at the report of the
gun. I first noticed the bird as
it was bending over a squirrel trap.
It was hopping along a gravelly ridge
on the tundra & its companion was
10 yds away. At my first movement
it flew about 20 yds farther off
Aug 18 (Same locality) Spec. no. 1907
was taken off while it was perched
on the gravelly tundra, sparsely
grown with grass, near the school
house. It was alone. The distinguishing
feature of sight identification is the
pure white upper & lower tail covert
& rump and the black tip to the
end of the tail. The rest of the
bird has a light creamy brown
appearance.

exasperating monotony. The momentum
