NORTHERN RAVEN (2)
Shoutman, schoolteacher at Sevoonga
and reliable informant states that
in winter the ravens come around
the village in small groups
may easily be killed. In fact,
last winter, he shot a half
dozen to be rid of them.
Members of the crew reported Ravens
resting on Besboro Island. Informants
were reliable. (Norton Sound.)
Point Hope, Arctic Ocean, Alaska.
Aug 2. Saw 4 ravens flying over
the beach + then across the
tundra about 6 miles east of the
village. Made doubtful sight record
in hills just north of Cape Thompson
August 12 Spec. 1868 was alone -
and hovered long enough about the
Mission graveyard to get shot.
Sept. 1 St. Matthews, Bering Sea.
I saw several pairs among the
seething crags at the side of Cape
Sloy of Russia's Cliff.
