529 Gilman 1931 Short Eared Owl D June 8, St. Michael, Alaska One taken (No. 1568) near old river boats on Marsh 15 miles S. of St. Michael. Said to nest in the boats but careful exploration for trinkets failed to dislodge any. Sept. 15 Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutians Saw an owl by the lagoon just south of town. It flew up about 100 yds ahead of me and was soon lost to sight over some low rises but I noticed white areas on the wings. General color was light brown. Owls are reported at in the old buildings at Dutch Harbor and are d said to be very numerous on the west end of this island. They may be of this species. Oct. 15 Akutan, Akutan Is., E. Aleutians Today I flushed one right under my foot in some tall grass on a side hill some 100 yds from the beach. Had my gun in its case for it was raining and the owl flew shuscated right up in the air where I lost
