Gilmore LEAST AUKLET (5) 1931 common among the same boulders and undoubtedly prey heavily on this bird. A few scattered flocks of 2-6 were seen as we cruised southward along the east side of the island. Sept. 21. Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutians. Mr. Patterson, of Unalga Is., states that at times (in winter) he has seen myriads of small birds in the grass " if they were "not much larger than my fist". These seem to answer the description of Least Auklets. He also said they were general dark color with a little gray undermark. As far as logic goes, the Aleutian Is. ought to be the wintering grounds for these "sea gull." Oct. 2. Between Unalaska and English Bay During the 2 hr. cruise saw 40-50 of these birds. They were generally alone or in pairs as well scattered. They allowed a very close approach and tried to escape at first generally by diving.
