Gilmore LEAST AUKLET ③
1931
wonderful sight, not to be forgotten
For a long time.
In the morning hundreds of the
birds may be seen perched on
the remaining snow banks that
hang on the Crest of the Cliffs.
For the last week or so the
numbers have not been as much
in evidence as before. They are still
here but probably spending more
time feeding & studing & the rest.
When out in the whale boats they
are easily approachable as they
sit or feed on the surface. The
flocks range from 2-5. The
young fellows in the boat take
along several score of small
beach pebbles 1-3" in diam. &
throw at the birds as we run
them down with the boat. They
are very expert at this throwing
art & score a hit every once in a
while. The auklets rise rather
gradually from the surface &
use their feet to paddle them-
about selves as they start.
During rough windy weather
