Gilmore LEAST AUKLET ③ 1931 wonderful sight, not to be forgotten For a long time. In the morning hundreds of the birds may be seen perched on the remaining snow banks that hang on the Crest of the Cliffs. For the last week or so the numbers have not been as much in evidence as before. They are still here but probably spending more time feeding & studing & the rest. When out in the whale boats they are easily approachable as they sit or feed on the surface. The flocks range from 2-5. The young fellows in the boat take along several score of small beach pebbles 1-3" in diam. & throw at the birds as we run them down with the boat. They are very expert at this throwing art & score a hit every once in a while. The auklets rise rather gradually from the surface & use their feet to paddle them- about selves as they start.
