Gilman SABINE GULL (3)
1931
the waves washed up a white foam
on the shallow shore. Most have
the black heads but there were some
immatures in the bunch
August 22 Saw a few along the
beach the other day but they are
going scarce & don't seem to be
inhabiting the lagoons in large
numbers any more, at least the
particular small lagoon near the decem's
boat house.
Aug 29. None a stone bird was
with the flock of Glaucous Gulls
around the ship. It seemed very
fearless, scarcely moving out of
the way of the launches.
Nov.6. Cross Sound, Alaska (S.E.)
As we enter the Inside Passage
tonight we leave the open gulf &
heavy seas behind, and perhaps also
the small dunite Sabine Gull now
minus the black head, tho a dusky
patch still brings & the rage of the buck.
Perhaps a half dozen in all have
been seen since we left Unalaska
