Western Gull Larus occidentalis
Silman
1931
May 5, 1931 - many western gulls with
us all day - greater percentage of
adults than young. Flying around
quite close to the ship + even
rode on the yard arms.
May 6, 1931 - 178 mi. - 350 mi. N. of
J.F. Bay - still with us - seem
to be the only kind.
May 7, 1931 - still present - numbers
have increased.
May 8 1931 up off coast of Washington.
still here - this in decreased numbers.
Nov. 14 Off S.W. coast of Washington.
Western Gulls have become common
again. Their dark backs + black
wingtips are seen often in the
Black & gulls following the ship.
