474 Gimme HERRING GULL - Larus argentatus smithsonianus 1931 May 19, 1931 Puget Sound + passage past of Vancouver. Great numbers of these gulls are found in these waters. Numbers increased in the afternoon as we cruised northward. May 15 1930 thru Seymour Narrows - still with us, with other gulls. May 16 Queen Charlotte Straits, - Finlayson Channel. - probably present. May 20 Shet present up in Gulf of Alaska. Several around boat, many more in north part of Island passage. Do not appear to have any bead red in eye - at times on yards they utter a hen-like cluck! Curiosity or attracting attention? Afognak Is May 21 Marmot Bay - still present - may not on Triple I. & Whale Is. May 31 Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutian Islands. Now seen for certainty during weeks stay here.
