470 GLAUCOUS WINGED GULL Larus glaucescens Gilmore 1931 May 8, 1931 - Coast of Washington + Juan de Fuca Strait - quite positively identified by sight - May 14, 1931 These gulls are quite Common on the Puget Sound + the inland passage east of Vancouver Is. Their numbers become more numerous in the afternoon. May 15, 1930 - Cruising thru Simon Narrows this gull was a constant companion of the boat. May 16 - Queen Charlotte Strait & Finlayson passage - numbers still here. May 20. Yakutat Bay - + south - still present in almost equal nos. with Herring Gull May 21. Gulf of Alaska - Kenai & Marmot Bay - scenes in morning, heavy gale + Jar from shine - dozen or so followed the ship thru Marmot Bay in evening; still heavy wind.
