POMARINE JAEGER (3)
Point Hope, Arctic Ocean, Alaska.
Aug 2 during the last five days spent
on the sand spit between the village
(Tigara) + Cape Thompson. I saw many
of these jaegers & the one shot at
the reindeer camp was a Pomarine.
Often seen singly or in pairs, either
flying over the lagoons & land or
perched on some slight raise in the
ground. Seemed to be more numerous
near the village (seaward half of the
peninsula) than nearer the foothills.
Aug 7 Saw 4-5 along the north
shore today - some of them hung
out over the rough water, well
out from land.
August 22 Seems to be getting scarce -
Jaw only one in a 15-mile hike
over the peninsula, around lagoons
etc.
