459 Gilmore RED PHALAROPE (2) 1931 at all. About half the individuals were showed red on the breast r belly + the other half were either in or almost in the winter plumage. Aug 9. Foggy, windy night. Many R. Phalaropes on tundra + lagoon. For the first time noticed a note - a short shrill "tsip-tsip." Aug 22 Getting much scarcer - very few birds show red on breast + belly. SEPT 30 Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutian Is., Alaska During the last week I have seen quite a few of these birds. Perhaps 50 or so may be seen in one flock in the inner harbor, or perhaps 2-3 may be found straggling along. Oct. 2 Unalaska Red Phalaropes seem to be getting more numerous. Today as we cruised out of the harbor for English Bay I saw several hundred red all told. Generally they were in scattered pairs or triplets, only occasionally a flock of several doz. or more.
