441 Silmore Ruddy Turnstone (2) 1931 Tugara Point Hope, Alaska. Aug. 19. No. 1931 was taken on gravelly Tundra. Only one seen, evidently they are quite scarce. Aug. 22. Took two today - they were singles in with flock of Red Backed Sandpipers and Golden Plover res- pictively. They were quite wary and generally flew quite along distance away in a rapid zigzag flight when flushed. Their quick banks and turns in flight are so rapid as to be almost eye-deceiving. Their general sharply marked black & white coloration, mostly white, is the characteristic sight features. Sept. 18 Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutians Have seen 4 or 5 birds so far here and all were along the South side of the bay between the town and Summers Bay. Generally they are in groups of 2-3 and seem to prefer the stup gravelly sections of the beach where they sit or feed among the rocks & pebbles at some distance from the waters edge.
