433 Silmoe Rock Ptarmigan @ 1931 in flight. Oct. 21. Akutan Bay, Akutan Is., E. Aleutians. Today I secured 3 specimens, all from the side of the rocky ridge on the N.W. side of the bay. They were in small groups (three that I saw) from 2-4 in number. Snow covering the rocks of the peaks & ridge crests makes their former habitat uninhab- itable. In winter, the MacTashans, say, the ptarmigan gather in great numbers in the flats & valleys close to the shore.
